Rita Hou (Speech Pathologist)
B.Sp.Path M.S.P.A. / Currently completing Masters in Audiology at University of Queensland
Rita Hou graduated from the University of Queensland (UQ) and during her studies has enjoyed the opportunity to work with both children and adults with hearing impairments. Rita was completely mesmerised by the intricate relationship between speech, language and hearing so then decided to pursue postgraduate studies in audiology at UQ to further develop her knowledge in the field of hearing. Rita is expecting to graduate in 2005 duel qualified as an Audiologist in addition to currently being a qualified Speech Pathologist.
In her role as a Speech Pathologist as part of the team at Optimal Communications-Speech Pathology, Rita loves working with both adults and children in all areas of communication impairment. Her special interests lie in hearing related speech and language challenges, so you can come have fun with her in the forest room at “Once Upon a Time Therapy” centre in Jackman St Southport.
As Rita migrated from Taiwan in her early childhood years and speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese, she also has a special skills in English as a Second Language (ESL) for Mandarin Chinese speakers. Having the additional edge as Speech Pathologist, she understands the language structures of both English and Mandarin in depth and can support individuals making this transition between the two languages not only for their language skills, but also in the reduction of their accent and in understanding the differences between the countries cultures and social skills. She uses this knowledge to assist Mandarin speakers to learn English in the most efficient way. Rita currently holds a nationally recognised (NAATI) paraprofessional English/Mandarin interpreting licence.
Additionally, Rita’s has a love of music and holds a diploma in piano performance.
